Laurieton Kew Volunteers Day 25 & Seniors Expo 26

Supporting Customer Communities: Laurieton Kew Volunteers Day & 3 Day Expo

When you live in a land lease community, one thing is certain: it's the people who make it special. We recently had the pleasure to support not one, but two events for residents and volunteers at Laurieton Kew.

Celebrating the heart of Laurieton Kew

Laurieton Kew, part of the Hometown Australia network, is a vibrant over 55’s lifestyle community where residents enjoy independence, connection and the comfort of living among like-minded neighbours.

Volunteers Day 2025

Volunteers are the quiet force behind the community spirit we often talk about at MHIA. At Laurieton Kew they show their appreciation each year with a unique event. In November 2025 that spirit was on full display at the Laurieton Kew Volunteers Day. Held at the Laurieton Kew Club House, this special luncheon brought together around 100 residents to celebrate the volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to their community. MHIA was proud to sponsor the day for the second year running. Supporting communities like this is not just a gesture, it is part of who we are.

The day included:

  • A beautifully decorated clubhouse in MHIA colours
  • A Devonshire tea
  • Live entertainment from BUGS, a volunteer group from nearby Port Macquarie
  • Singing, laughter and plenty of community spirit

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Residents felt valued, volunteers felt appreciated and the room was full of energy.

Seniors’ 3-Day Expo 2026

Strong communities thrive on connection, learning and shared experiences, and the 2026 Seniors' 3-Day Expo delivered exactly that.

Held over three days in March as part of the NSW Seniors Festival, the event brought together local seniors for an informative and enjoyable experience, with topics including:

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Estate planning
  • Travel and community services
  • Live entertainment, music and social activities

MHIA was proud to sponsor the expo alongside Hometown Australia Communities and the Laurieton Kew Social Club. Our team thoroughly enjoyed attending the event, connecting with residents, and supporting an initiative that promotes engagement, wellbeing and community connection among seniors.

Events filled with gratitude and good company

Both events were organised by the wonderful Dianne, Chairperson of the Laurieton Kew Social Club. The club has hosted numerous events which help homeowners to engage with each other and support their community.

Dianne told us: "it’s events like this that allow the community to come together and thank those for their contribution, no matter how big or small."

Life in an over 55’s land lease community

If you're thinking about moving into an over 55s land lease community, events like these provide a great insight into the strong sense of connection and belonging that residents enjoy.

Land lease communities are designed to offer comfort, security and independence. Residents own their homes and lease the land, while enjoying shared facilities, social activities and a supportive community environment.

For many residents, this lifestyle offers:

  • An alternative to traditional retirement villages
  • A manageable, low-maintenance lifestyle
  • Like-minded neighbours nearby
  • A strong and welcoming community

It's not just about downsizing. It's about right-sizing your life.

Protecting what matters most

Homes in a land lease community are often different from traditional houses, which is why specialist insurance matters.

Insurance often works quietly in the background. As a specialist insurer, MHIA understands this. You want clear information and support when you need it most. By sponsoring community events, MHIA stays connected to the people we serve. We listen, we learn and we see firsthand the friendships, dedication, and sense of belonging that make communities like Laurieton Kew so special.

Looking ahead

At MHIA, we are proud to stand alongside the communities we support. When volunteers give their time and residents come together, we're reminded that insurance is about more than homes and buildings.

It is about people.

And that is something worth celebrating.
